Amelia Kowalski Obituary

Amelia “Mimi” Kowalski, age 97, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Life Care Center of Wilbraham. Her husband of 70 years, Ronald, passed away in 2021. She was born in Hardwick on April 26, 1927, daughter of the late Anthony and Florentina (Pirog) Bomba-Koziol. Mimi graduated from Hardwick High School and was employed by the former Ware Knitters from 1951 to 1977 as a secretary in the main office. She traveled extensively both internationally and domestically and proudly shared her many photo albums that documented all the fond memories. Mimi was the “queen” of no-clutter and people appreciated her frankness in conversation. After being called Mimi the majority of her life, she announced at the venerable age of 94 that she liked her name Amelia and preferred to be addressed by that name. She was a communicant of All Saints Church. Mimi is survived by several nieces and nephews. Mimi was predeceased by her four siblings in 2015: Mary Masiello of Shrewsbury, her twin sister Stephanie Garstka of Gilbertville, Stanley Bomba of Barre and Phyllis Sorel of Gilbertville. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, with a funeral Mass at 10 AM in All Saints Catholic Church, Ware. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church on Monday morning. Burial will follow in the New St. William Cemetery, Ware. There are no calling hours. Cebula Funeral Home of Ware has been entrusted with Mimi’s final arrangements.
