West Warren - Bertha Barbara (Broton) Sablak, age 97, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 14, 2023 with her loving family at her side. Bertha was born in the Bondsville section of Palmer on September 30, 1925, daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Kos) Broton and she was the youngest of twelve children. Bertha was employed by the Springfield Armory during World War II. On October 26, 1947 she entered into Holy Matrimony with Edward S. Sablak of West Warren. They were married in the former St. Adalbert's Church in Bondsville. Together they were happily married for 34 years until Edward passed away on April 12, 1981. Bertha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Cummings and her husband Tom, of Warren, Patricia Sablak-Korzec and Tom Barnidge of Moreno Valley, CA, son, Edward Sablak and his wife Myrna of Palmer, daughters, Alice Petruzzi of West Warren, and Theresa Aubin and her husband Alan of Ludlow. Bertha leaves behind her two grandchildren, Eddie Sablak and Jennica Sablak of Palmer, whom she loved so much. Bertha leaves behind her last sibling, her 102 year old sister, Vera Borowik of Hartford, CT and many nieces and nephews. Bertha was an avid sports fan, and loved watching the Boston Red Sox, the Bruins, the Celtics, and the New England Patriots and enjoyed her daily phone calls with her sports friend, Mickey Bish. She was a longtime communicant of St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Church in West Warren. She was a member of its Rosary Sodality and was an active member of its choir. For the last 10 years she was a devout communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ware. Bertha was pre-deceased by her siblings: Edward and John Broton, Sophie Lepianka, Ann Baker, Edna Howard and Stephanie "Kitty" Graveline. A Calling Period will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 9 am - 10:30 am in the Cebula Funeral Home Chapel, 66 South St., Ware. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 AM in St. Mary's Church, 57 South St., Ware. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Warren.
