Clara passed away peacefully at the Elaine Center in Hadley, on August 20, 2019. She was born on May 29, 1925, in West Warren to Mary (Machowicz) and Stephen Szczygiel. Clara attended St. Mary's School and Ware High School, graduating in 1942. While residing in Ware, she was employed by the Ware Woolen Company. Her fondest memories were of going dancing every weekend with her friends. It was at one of these dances that she met Thomas Williams, Jr. They were married in 1955, and moved to Westfield. During this time, Clara was employed by Electrolux, in Springfield, until her retirement. Following her husbands death in 1997, Clara moved back to Ware two years later and resided at Valley View Apartments. Clara was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and was actively involved as a member of the Polish Kitchen, making pierogies every week, along with other Polish food. She also sold Polish food and worked at the parish carnival. Clara was predeceased by her parents and her husband Tom, as well as her brother, Stanley Szczygiel, in 2000. and her sister, Christine Jablonski, in 2003. She is survived by five nieces and one nephew, many cousins and friends. Mass intentions may be requested at St. Mary's Church or Memorial Contributions set to Ware Catholic Youth Ministry, c/o St. Mary's Rectory, 60 South Street, Ware, MA 01082. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary's Church on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the Our Lady of LaSalette Section of St. Mary's Cemetery.
