Obituary

It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we mourn the loss of Euphemia (Phoebe) Boyko, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She died peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at the age of 101.

Predeceased by her parents Anthony & Catherine Libera, she was 1 of 7 children. She was a life-long resident of Thorndike, MA, never living more than a mile from where she was born on September 21, 1921.   For 69 years Phoebe lived in the house her father had meticulously built until a recent move to assisted living in November of 2022.

Phoebe was a 1939 graduate of Palmer High School, Palmer MA, and later worked in the office of superintendent of schools for Palmer. After some years as a homemaker with two young sons, she worked for, and then retired from, Tambrands in Three Rivers, MA.

Phoebe was a very social person and her family was very important to her. She was a lifelong member of the Divine Mercy Parish (formerly Saints Peter and Paul Parish) Three Rivers, MA.
For several years she was involved with the Mother’s Club of Saints Peter and Paul School and was also active in the Three Rivers branch of the Polish Women’s Alliance. Phoebe was an accomplished seamstress and crafter of handmade braided rugs. She also enjoyed word puzzles, crafts and reading.

Phoebe was married to her loving husband Jan Michael Boyko for 58 years, until his passing in 2006. Besides her husband, Phoebe was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond and Edward, and sisters Frances, Isabelle and Helena.  She leaves behind her beloved brother Dr. Richard Libera of Delaware and his wife Joan, son Ronald of Amherst, son Michael and wife Sandra of Weare NH, as well as grandchildren Christopher Boyko, Erik Boyko, Oscar (Sam) Boyko and wife Bridget Hagan, Rose Boyko and great-grandson Oliver Boyko, along with many nephews and nieces.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Greater Springfield Senior Services for the long- standing care that allowed her to stay in her home for many years.  We also want to extend thanks to Brookhaven Assisted Care of West Brookfield, MA, for the compassionate care provided to Phoebe over the past 4 months.

As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours.  A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 2267 Main Street, Three Rivers, MA, on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 10:00 A.M.   Burial to follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Bondsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Divine Mercy Parish/Saints Peter and Paul Church or the Palmer Senior Center at 1029 Central Street, Palmer, MA 01069.

Cebula’s Funeral Home of Ware has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
