Evelyn A. (Lis) Mongeau, passed into her next life on Sunday, September 11, 2022, while in the care of her family at the age of 84. She was a life-long resident of Ware. Born in January of 1938 to the late Frederick Lis, Sr. and Bronislawa (Witla) Gumula Lis. As a young woman she worked as a fancy stitcher in the former Ware Shoe Company. Her talent as a stitcher/seamstress was well known to her family, as she made many of her husband's suits, her daughter's clothes and daughter's Barbie Doll Outfits. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Maurice Mongeau and in 1958 they had their only child, Kathleen, whom she is survived by, as Maurice pre-deceased her in 1989. When the Ware Shoe Company closed in the early 1970's, she pursued her other talent, hair styling, and worked as a stylist for many years. Her last position was in the personnel department at Monson Developmental Center, from which she retired at the age of 62. In her later years she could be found almost everyday in the kitchen of the Holy Cross Polish National Church, making Polish Food with other members of the "Polish Kitchen", a job she loved. Having taken piano lessons as a child, she became the organist at the church in the 1980's, a position she held for over 30 years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Crieg Galford, her brother, Fred Lis, Jr., and several nieces and nephews. Her daughter would like to thank the staff at Baystate Hospice, especially Tom, Julia and Donna. The employees of the Town of of Ware, the staff of the Ware Town Hall, and especially Nancy Talbot, Faith Dulak and Laura Jablonski. Special thanks to Ruth Davis for the constant love and support and the Koziol Family of Cebula Funeral Home. For the special support she received from her sister-in-law, Theresa Mongeau, cousin, Barbara Byorek and friend Evelyn Labelle and two young men that were very special to her, Jeffrey Staiti and David Trzpit. A Calling Period will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 8:30 AM - 11 AM in the Cebula Funeral Home Chapel, Ware. A Requiem Prayer Service will begin at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. Fr. Pawel Lukasiewicz will officiate. Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, following the prayer service, in Holy Cross Cemetery in Ware.
