It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Ksen, who left us on June 8, 2024 at the age of 92. She was surrounded by family and friends in her final moments, with her rosary in hand. Helen was a reserved woman of quiet nature, who cherished time spent with her family. Her family was always her priority, offering love, support, and encouragement, and sharing her love of faith. Helen leaves her daughters Karen Ksen, Denise Ksen-Smith and her husband Scott Smith, a grandson Matthew Smith, of East Dennis, Mass. and son Kevin Ksen residing in Worcester, Mass. Helen was the loving wife of the late Robert M. Ksen. She was born in Warren in 1932 to the late Joseph Kasperon and Anna (Topor) Kasperon, living for 92 years right behind her parish church St. Stanislaus. She was a graduate of Warren High School, then went on to graduate from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, as a Registered Nurse. There she remained as a teacher, educating another generation after receiving her nursing degree. Helen dedicated her life to helping others. After leaving St. Vincent’s School of Nursing, she first worked as a nurse in private practice and her nursing later focused on senior care at the Palmer Healthcare Center and serving as head RN at Quaboag Nursing Home in West Brookfield. Her caring for others was an important part of who she was, not just her career. Helen regularly grabbed her medical supplies to help neighbors and parishioners in need, or maybe just the mercurochrome to clean and care for a playground accident’s scraped knee. Helen's pride and joy was her grandson, Matthew, whom she cared for deeply and would read bedtime stories, say prayers with, or bandage a wound for, as a child. She enjoyed day trips with her husband especially to the Vanilla Bean, visiting area greenhouses and gardening with Karen, a friendly game of checkers and warm weather trips to Cape Cod with the whole family. Helen could always be found at St. Stanislaus Parish, where she was more than just a communicant, teaching CCD, decorating the altars for many years, serving the parish and helping to preserve her Polish Catholicism. She was an active member of the St. Stanislaus’ Rosary Group. She was also proud of her Polish and Lithuanian roots. Ask her what she wanted for lunch and her first choices were always either rosół, kielbasa or kluski. Helen’s family will miss her quiet and gentle ways, and the peace she nurtured. Helen meant the world to her family. They will miss her deeply! A funeral Mass at St. Stanislaus Church in West Warren will be held at 11am on June 17, 2024 with burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Warren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial offerings may be made in Helen’s name to the St. Stanislaus Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 723 West Warren, MA 01092. Funeral Services are under the direction of the Koziol Family of Cebula Funeral Home, Ware. For more information and an online guest book, please visit: www.cebulafuneralhome.com
