Irvin Thomas Shea, age 91, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer. Irvin was born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 3, 1933, son of the late John F. Shea, Sr. and Beatrice E. (Renaud) Shea. He was raised and educated in West Warren. On May 19, 1950, Irvin enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard the high-speed minesweeper USS Gharardi. Irvin attained the rank of FN (Fireman). While on duty in the Navy he was stationed in the Mediterranean Sea, Athens, Greece, the Turkish Port of Izmir and the island of Corsica. Irvin took part in the NATO "Operation Rendezvous" in which ships of five nations participated in the exercise. Irvin was Honorably Discharged from the Navy on February 19, 1952. He was employed for many years for Cascade Diamond International as a printer. Irvin is survived by his son, Brian T. Shea of Ware, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, John in 1960, and Beatrice in 1980 as well as his daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Downey in 2013. Cremation took place in Springfield Cemetery and Crematory. Cebula Funeral Home of Ware is assisting Irvin's family with the final arrangements.
