Janina Stanislawa (Baran) Was

Janina Stanislawa (Baran) Was, age 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in her home.  Janina was born in Dabrowa, Poland on December 21, 1933, daughter of the late Jan and Viktoria (Wytrwal) Baran.  She was raised and educated in Poland and was employed as a telephone operator.  Janina migrated to the United States of America in 1973, where she was employed for a few years at the former Ware Woolen Company and she retired from the former Belchertown State School. She was the co-owner of Was Brothers Construction, Inc. for a few years after her husband passed away in 1990.  Janina was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ware where she sang for many years in its choir, and was a member of the former Polish Women's Alliance and St. Mary's Rosary Sodality.  Janina was also a generous benefactor to St. Mary's Cemetery in Ware, she donated to beautifying its grounds as well as the refurbishing of its Calvary Altar.  Janina leaves behind her children, son Walter Smola (wife Mary), her daughter, Martha Czaja ( husband Stephen) and her grandchildren; Stacy McGarrity (husband Tom), Daniel Smola (wife Liane), Alisia Ouellette, Stephen Czaja, Alexander Czaja and Jenna Czaja, her great grandchildren, Michael and Matthew McGarrity and Rhiley Comeau.  She also leaves behind her family, Helena Adamczyk, Eugieniusz Baran, Zbigniew Baran, Janusz Baran and Beata Baran.  Janina leaves behind her sister-in-law, Celia Slozak and many nieces and nephews in the Was family, and her very special, long-time friend, Jane Haznar.  Sadly, Janina was predeceased by her beloved husband, Henry A. Was on February 11, 1990. A Calling Period will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM in the Cebula Funeral Home Chapel, 66 South St., Ware.  A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11 AM in St. Mary's Church, 57 South St., Ware.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemtery, Ware.  For more information and online guest book please visit:  www.cebulafuneralhome.com .
