Lester Francis Madry

Lester Francis Madry, age 87, passed peacefully in his sleep Monday afternoon, August 2, 2021, at Baystate Hospital in Springfield, MA, where he succumbed to multiple medical causes while being kept comfortably sedated in the "End of Life" ward, according to his wishes.  Lester was born in New York City on November 3, 1933, to the late Francis and Yvette (Chevalier) Madry.  He graduated from Mater Dolorosa Parochial School in 1948 and St. Jerome's (Holyoke Catholic) High School in 1952.  Lester was a communicant at Mater Dolorosa Church, also, in Holyoke, where he was also confirmed.  After graduation, he proudly served as an Airman 1st Class with the US Air Force in Korea during the Korean War from 1952 - 1956.  He was also a proud member of the American Legion in Ware, MA.  Before working as a Letter Sorter for the US Postal Service at the Springfield Bulk Mail Center in Indian Orchard, MA, where he retired with a pension in 1999 after 23 years of service, Lester applied the bachelor's degree in Accounting he earned from American International College in Springfield at Rexel in Indian Orchard.  Lester was pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years, Rose Orszulak of Ware in 2019 and his younger brother, Edward in 2002.  He is survived by his two sons, David of Ware, and James of Fredericksburg, VA, along with his siblings, Patricia Robillard of Chicopee, MA, and Michael Madry of West Suffield, CT.  He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Troy, Amanda, Alyssa, Dylan and Alex, along with five great grandchildren, Natalia, Leigha, Kenneth James, Autumn and Jaxson. A Calling Hour will be held on Sunday, August 8, from 4:30 - 5:30 PM at the Cebula Funeral Home, 66 South Street, Ware, MA.  A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 AM on Monday, August 9, at St. Mary's Church in Ware.  Lester will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ware following the funeral mass.  Memorial donations and flowers will be accepted.
