Lucille (Teel) Pluta, 91, of Gilbertville, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on 5 October
2023, surrounded by her children.
Teel, born to parents Wilfred and Opalma (Plouffe) Vachon in Gilbertville, graduated from
Hardwick High School in 1947 and went on to marry Walter Pluta in 1952. Walter and Teel and
their five children moved to Cape Cod in 1973 where Teel owned Mill and Fabrics in South
Yarmouth. When Teel and Walter moved back to Gilbertville in 1982, Teel worked for Otto
Florist in Ware, MA. She was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church in Gilbertville.
As a practical joker, Teel had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with family and
lifelong friends. She was a ruthless, competitive card player and ensured everyone knew, “there
are no friends at the card table”. Teel loved Foxwoods and enjoyed many nights playing the slots
with her sister Lorraine.
Family came first for Teel as she was fiercely dedicated to all of her children, grandchildren, and
great grandchildren. She leaves behind her son Gerard Pluta and his fiancé Terry Leary of
Gilbertville, MA, son Todd Pluta and his wife Lynn of Whitman, MA, daughter Shelley
Harrington of Dudley, MA, son-in-law Michael DeMarco of Ellington, CT, sister Claire Giard of
Barre, MA, and brother Wilfred (Rick) Vachon and his wife Joanne of Chatham, MA.
Meme Teel also leaves behind her grandchildren Casey DeMarco and his partner Nicole
McVeigh of Connecticut, Daryl DeMarco and his wife Heather of Connecticut, Kate Marino and
her husband Steve of New York, Jeff Pluta and his partner Tsetsi Malinova of New York, Alison
Francis and her husband Chris of Massachusetts, Ryan Costello of Florida, Jason Harrington and
his wife Nikki of Massachusetts, Greg Harrington of Massachusetts, Amanda Miller and her
husband Chris of Texas, and Paige Rorie and her husband John of Alabama. Teel also leaves
behind her great grandchildren Finnigan, Katie Mae, Lillian, Lily, Landry, Walter, Cordelia,
Phoenix, Maeve, Audrina, and Austin, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Teel was predeceased by her husband Walter, son Derek, daughter Debra, and sister Lorraine.
There will be a funeral mass at St. Aloysius Church at 10:00am on Friday, 13 October followed
by a graveside service where she will be buried alongside her husband Walter and son Derek. There are no calling hours
