Lucy D. (Urban) Opalinski of Ware, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2019 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was born on March 31, 1924 in Ware, beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Stephanie (Merchut) Urban. Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband Henry S. Opalinski in 2011 after 58 beautiful years of marriage. Lucy leaves her daughter Janet Pavlick and husband Glen of Boca Raton, FL, her son Paul Opalinski and wife Tracy of Ware, and her son Joseph Opalinski and wife Joanna of Arlington, MA; and grandchildren, Christa Pavlick and fiance Graham Gilbert and Lindsey Pavlick of FL, Nicholas Pavlick of CA, Tara Opalinski of NJ, Michael Opalinski of Ware, Joseph, Marisa and Giulia Opalinski of Arlington.
Predeceased by brothers, Paul, Stanley, Walter, Peter, Frank, Henry, Joseph, and Edward and sisters, Julia Stejna, Ann Clark and Alice Cyr. Lucy leaves her beloved sister, Irene Sinkoski of Ware and many nieces and nephews.
Lucy was a graduate of Ware High School Class of 1942. At various times Lucy worked at Prudential Insurance and as a nurse’s aide at Mary Lane Hospital. She and her husband, Henry, enjoyed spending many fun times traveling and at the pool with her brother Eddie and wife Barbara and her sister Irene and husband Bob.
Lucy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She made sure to spend quality time with each of her grandchildren over the years and is fondly remembered for her advice, wisdom and humor. Known for her culinary skills, she enjoyed hosting family gatherings. Later in life she treasured annual stays with her loving daughter in Florida. A firm believer of exercise she enjoyed daily walks well into her 90's at the Quabbin, Grenville Park and St. Mary’s Cemetery. Lucy was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Ware.
Funeral Services for Lucy will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 9:30 AM from the Cebula Funeral Home Chapel, 66 South St. Ware. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:15 AM in St. Mary's Church, 60 South St. Ware. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ware. Lucy will repose for calling hours on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 AM, prior to the Funeral service in the funeral home chapel. Memorial donations can be made to St. Mary’s Parish in her memory.
