Marjorie Muri Obituary

Marjorie Ann (Tirrell) Muri, affectionately known as Marge, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023, at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston at the age of 90. Marge was born on April 2, 1932, in Framingham, MA, to James and Anne (Grelotti) Tirrell. She grew up in Framingham surrounded by a large and loving Irish-Italian family. She graduated from Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. Marge met and fell in love with Richard (Dick) Muri during nurses training, and they were married in 1954. They moved to Ashland, where they started their family of four in the house that Dick built. In 1976, Marge and Dick moved to Ware, where they spent the rest of their lives. Marge was a dedicated member of the community and worked tirelessly both as a nurse and volunteer. She worked in the clinic of the William E. Wright Co. in West Warren and the maternity ward of Mary Lane Hospital in Ware before retiring in 1985. Marjorie also contributed much of her time to various organizations, including the Ware Social Science Club, Mary Lane Hospital Auxiliary, The Council on Aging in Ware, the board of Western Mass Elder Care in Holyoke, and the Ware Zoning Board.  She was a proud 2nd generation member of the Framingham Heart Study. Marge’s hobbies included sewing, reading, knitting and square dancing.  Marge loved to travel, but her favorite place to visit was the family camp, Wits End, in Maine where she enjoyed every summer with her family and cousins.  Marge was predeceased by her husband Dick in 1992, and she remained in Ware with her friend Gerry Ernest. Marge is survived by her four children: Ann Turnberg and husband Jay of Longmeadow, Sherrill Johnson and husband Warren of Hardwick, Karen Rose and husband Edward of Cumberland, RI, and James Muri and wife Nancy of Rehoboth.  She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Erik and Scott Turnberg, Angela Johnson-Rostami, Carolina Johnson-Rogers, Daniella Johnson-Kelley, John Rose, Alexandra Rose-Cook, Richard and Jeffery Muri, along with ten great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters Mae Cleary, Karen Romanoski, and Noreen Tirrell, all of Tucson, Arizona. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 4 - 7 PM in the Cebula Funeral Home Chapel, 66 South Street, Ware.
