Mary Ann Lis Obituary

Mary Ann T. (Polack) Lis, age 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 20, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ware on August 4, 1946 to Walter and Henrietta (Orszulak) Polack. Mary Ann graduated from Ware High School in 1964 and Northampton Commercial College in 1966. She married her high school sweetheart Frederick S. Lis Jr. on May 30, 1968. Mary Ann was a medical secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where she met life-long friends, and retired in 1995. She enjoyed traveling to the Jersey Shore and Missouri, baking at home, playing cards and board games with family, and social events with the “Biel Gang.” Mary Ann was very generous as she donated to a variety of charitable organizations regularly. Her kind and compassionate nature was observed daily and everyone looked to her as the voice of reason. One of her greatest joys in life was watching her granddaughter Michelle’s sporting events, as she was her biggest fan and never missed a game. She will join her parents, Walter and Henrietta Polack, and many other close family members in heaven. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 50 years Frederick Lis Jr., daughter Jennifer Petrarca of Ballwin, MO, daughter Joanne and husband Douglas Dulak, and granddaughters Michelle and Meredith of Ware. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. Calling hours were held on Sunday, March 24th, from 4 - 7 PM at Cebula’s Funeral Home, 66 South Street, Ware, MA. A Funeral Mass was offered at 11 AM on Monday, March 25th, at St. Mary’s Church in Ware. Everyone met directly at the church on Monday morning. Mary Ann was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ware next to her parents following the Funeral Mass.  Memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association in her memory.
