Richard A. Gauthier, age 81, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Richard was born on February 3, 1944, in Ware, Massachusetts. Richard was the son of the late Wilbrod and Lydia (LaCroix) Gauthier. He was the brother of Roger Gauthier and Dolores Roy. He was born and lived his entire life in the Town of Ware. Richard was known to all his family and friends by his nickname "Nitch". Nitch worked many years and retired from the custodial department of UMASS in Amherst. When Nitch wasn't working, he enjoyed watching the many Boston sports teams. What Nitch truly loved most was the great outdoors, where he spent most of his time hunting and fishing. His family and friends can recall the countless times he would take anyone that wanted to go hunting or fishing with him, out in the woods or to his favorite place, fishing the Quabbin. Nitch was a member of many clubs, but his favorite was the Aspen Street Rod and Gun Club. He was a regular helper at the Kid's Fishing Derbies and would volunteer routinely for the Quabbin Fishing Derby for the disabled. Besides his brother Roger and sister Dolores, Nitch leaves behind his nephews and their family, and many friends. Nitch will be laid to rest on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with a Graveside Service at 11 am in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Ware. Funeral Services are under the direction of Cebula Funeral Home, Ware.
