Robert Clifton Beer, 91, of Ware, was called to heaven surrounded by loved ones on December 2, 2021. Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joan McCausland Beer. He was the son of Herbert L. and Ethel Beer. Shortly thereafter, the family moved from California to Spencer, Massachusetts and raised a family of 11. He is survived by four children, Robert and his wife Sharon of Paxton, Allen and his wife Christine of Leicester, Paula Mulqueen and husband John of Holden, and Deborah Beer of Ware, with whom he lived, along with his granddaughter Heather. Robert had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, George Beer of Spencer. Robert was predeceased by his brothers Herbert, Richard, and Arnold, as well his sisters, Doris Thomas, Jean Leon, Jo Seery and Beverly Granlund.
Robert worked as a carpenter, a master of his craft, as he created cabinets and countertops for several years. He was drafted into the Army in 1952. Because of his abilities, he was trained as a construction engineer and served with the Air Force in Korea during the war until 1953. Robert also served as a carpentry teacher for the Worcester County Collaborative in Spencer and later for Worcester Vocational High School. He also opened two video rental stores (Burncoat Video Corner in Worcester and Big Video in Spencer). Robert was also an inventor, having created “RescueAlive” and RescueReady an ice rescue unit. The unit is now used all around the world.
Robert kept people rolling in laughter because he could find humor in the most mundane life circumstances.
Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
