Roland Richard Kosla, age 71, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Baystate Marylane Outpatient Care Center in Ware. He was born on May 7, 1946 in Passaic, New Jersey, the only son of the late Edward T. and Lillian (Wos) Kosla. Roland was raised and educated in Gilbertville. He graduated from the former Hardwick High School in 1964. On December 7, 1965, Roland enlisted in the United States Army and Proudly served his country in Vietnam. He was discharged on September 9, 1967 with the rank of SP4, and was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Expert Rifle M-14 Badge. Roland was extremely proud of his service, and marched in various parades. He was a member of the AMVETS, the American Legion Post 246, and the VFW Post 9093. Roland was also a long-time member of the former Joseph Pilsudski Association in Gilbertville. He was employed for many years by the Town of Hardwick, an an assistant operations manager for the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Roland was also a 34 year part time Police Officer for the Town of Hardwick. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Diann (Pierce) Kosla, sons: John and Edward Kosla, and grandchildren: Trevor, Dustin, Danilyn, and Landon. Calling Hours for Roland were held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 4:30 - 8 PM in the Cebula Funeral Home Chapel, 66 South St., Ware. Cremation took place in Springfield Cemetery & Crematory. Burial will take place at the convenience of his family.
