Roslyn Kszaszcz Obituary

Roslyn T. (Bartoszek) Kszaszcz, age 91, passed away February 1, 2022 following an undiagnosed chronic illness surrounded by the love of her family and dogs Lucky and Luna. Born in Chicopee Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John "Jan" Bartoszek and Barbara (Remiszko) Bartoszek. At age 11 years her family moved to Hardwick Massachusetts to begin farming and where her love of animals and nature began. Shortly after graduating from Hardwick High School, she met her late husband of sixty seven years Carl F. Kszaszcz. Together they ran an ice cream business, Mulvaney’s Ice cream, but later they became distributors of Hoods Ice cream. This made many children happy at the annual town Christmas Parties. Roslyn loved to keep busy and was employed by Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts for over 30 years as a certified nurse’s aide before retiring at age 72 years. She also worked as a census taker for the Town of Ware and was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader in her earlier years. Roslyn was active in her church, St. Mary’s, helping with the annual tag sale and took pride in being an active member of the Polish Women’s Club.
In her down time, she and her husband Carl loved ballroom dancing, traveling, playing cards with their special friends of many years, and hosting Christmas Wigilia. There were often two sittings on Christmas Eve because everyone loved her mushroom borscht so much. More favorite past times included oil painting, picking blueberries in the Quabbin, gardening, and propagating plants to sell at her tag sales.  This helped to support her love of birds, and rescuing animals especially stray cats.  In her years living in Rhode Island her love of birds started her officially bird watching for the local Audubon bird count using her bird feeders outside her room and weekly rides to the ocean to count sea birds with her family.
Roslyn was the beloved mother of the late Philip Kszaszcz, Richard Kszaszcz, and Carla Ksaszcz-Heath (husband, Richard Heath); loving grandmother of Richard Colby Kszaszcz, Sarah Heath, and Hannah Heath. Caring Aunt of Barbara (Pazik) Boron, Edward Pazik, late Gloria Pazik, Cheryl (Masajada) Bobrik, Richard Gancas, late Stanley (Junior) Gancas, Rita (Bartoszek) Wilmot, Sandra (Bartoszek) Crampton, and Joseph (Jay) Bartoszek.  In addition to her husband and son, Roslyn was predeceased by her siblings, Jean Pazik, Josephine Masajada, Stella Gancas, Stanley Bartoszek, and Joseph Bartoszek.
She is survived by her nieces in law (Betty Lloyd, Carol Smith, Claire Lauridsen) and a nephew in law (Paul Kszaszcz), and has enjoyed being a great-aunt and great-great-aunt on both sides of the family.  Birthday celebrations were always a favorite event to her and she always made sure to have a stack of birthday cards ready to be sent out and a glass of wine to salute during her organized parties. So, this year on your birthdays make sure you pour yourself a favorite drink and hold it up saying Na Zdrowie! Roslyn will be sending “cheers” from heaven.
A celebration of life will include a visitation at Cebula Funeral Home, 66 South St., Ware, Massachusetts from 10-11 am on March 11th 2022 with a prayer service at 11 am.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery for burial with prayers of Committal.
