Thomas Raymond Contonio, affectionately known to his family and friends as "Old Man" passed away in his home on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Tom was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on August 4, 1954, son of the late Thomas Contonio and Hazel (McGinnis) Contonio. He earned his GED and went onto attend college. Tom was a graduate of Becker Junior College and the Boston School of Fashion Design. He worked for NASA designing space suits and was a self-employed licensed contractor, who built 100's of houses throughout the years. Tom loved nature, he loved the Quabbin Reservoir and all that it had to offer. The Quabbin had a special place in his heart, it is where he proposed to his beloved wife. Tom loved hunting and fishing, and in later years when illness took the ability to do these activities from him, he would always say "I'm getting up and going out this year". He passed on his vast knowledge of everything he knew, to those he loved and has left behind. Tom has been a 13-year resident of Gilbertville. Previously, he lived for many years in Hardwick and Worcester. Tom leaves behind his heartbroken family, his wife of 37 years, Tina (Butler) Contonio, sons: Adam Contonio and his wife, Georgi, Andrew Contonio, Bryan Contonio and his wife, Amanda, and his daughter, Samantha Contonio and Nick. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Aubrey, Alexander, Melody, Maddy, Mason and one grandchild on the way, as well as his siblings and many nieces and nephews. Tom loved his animals, especially his dogs, Sherlock Bones and Buttercup, and his birds, Oli and TJ. Cremation took place in Springfield Cemetery and Crematory. Cebula Funeral Home of Ware is assisting his family with the final arrangements. For more information and an online guest book, please visit: www.cebulafuneralhome.com .
