Vincent Pulchtopek Obituary

Vincent Charles Pulchtopek, age 97, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 26, 2021 after a long life.  Vincent was born in the Town of Ware on November 16, 1924, one of 11 children born to the late Jacob and Anna (Kutt) Pulchtopek, and he was a life long resident.  Vincent graduated from the former St. Mary's Polish Grammar School in 1938 and in 1942 from Ware High School.  A month after graduating high school Vincent enlisted in the United States Navy.  He served at the age of 17 as a yeoman on a ship that was part of a Navy convoy.  He assisted the captain as his clerk and aide.  Vincent had the skill set to quietly help, stay organized, and made sure things got done. In 1944 Vincent entered into Holy Matrimony with the former Dorothy L. (Whitney) Pulchtopek, they were married for 56 years before Dorothy suddenly passed away in 2000. He was employed for many years for Ludlow Papers, now known as Kanzaki Specialty Papers in Ware.  Vincent was a very skilled person, but by his own admission never learned to drive a car.  Vincent was a very humble person, who knew his Catholic Faith, his prayers in both Polish and English without doubt.  For 32 years, through four Pastors, Vincent served as Sacristan for his beloved St. Mary's Church.  Every day he would walk the 12 minutes from his home to St. Mary's Church to arrive at 6 or 6:30 AM to prepare for mass. Vincent would set up for mass, light the candles, prepare the readings of the day and making sure the Roman Missal was marked to the correct day for prayers.  Vinny took on many tasks in the church, cleaning church items, teaching the Altar Servers, acted as an usher and collector, and served for many years as an Adult Altar Server. He will be remembered as the organizer of the votive candles in the church, setting them up, and collecting the money from the candles. Vinny prayed the Rosary every day, and would lead the Rosary Sodality in prayer. His strong faith meant everything to him, and it was what he credited his long-life to. Vincent was an inspiration to all who knew him.  The world needs more people like him, those who truly believe, and by their actions do so for the Glory of God without asking for anything in return. Vinny leaves behind his son, Paul Pulchtopek and his wife Valerie, his daughter, Diane Pulchtopek Wetherby and her husband Brian, his grandchildren, Roxanne LeBlanc and Colleen Humphrey, his last surviving brother, Stanley Pulchtopek, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and the parishioners of St. Mary's and All Saints Parishes.  Vincent was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 2000, his grandson, Shane in 2006, and 9 brothers and sisters: Mary, Michael, Walter, Florian, Whitla, Delia, Doris, Edward and Francis. Vincent will be given the honor of reposing in St. Mary's Church, 57 South Street, Ware, on Thursday, January 6, 2022 starting at 6 PM with a Vigil Service lead by Fr. Paul Norman, Pastor.  The Holy Rosary will be recited by the Rosary Sodality at 6:15 PM, and visitation will take place between 6:30-730.  Vincent's Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11 AM by the Very Reverend Piotr Calik.  Burial with Prayers of Committal and Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Mary's Church, 60 South Street, Ware, MA 01082.  The funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Koziol Family of Cebula Funeral Home of Ware.  For more information and online guest book, please visit:  www.cebulafuneralhome.com .
